Ever wanted to develop your own website but just didn't know how to get started? Website Development is probably a lot easier than you think and we'll show you how.
Step 6: Configure Your New Website
If you have not done so already, go to your website. Take a moment to read the first page of your site. After that go ahead and login with the username and password you used during the Drupal install. Click on the third link down on the left titled "Administer". You will probably see a message in red that says "One or more problems were detected with your Drupal installation. Check the status report for more information."
Don't worry, the install was fine, you just have to configure your "cron". jobs. If you don't not what a cron job is, that is fine and it is not necessary at the moment but should be done in the future. For now you can click on "status report" link and then click on "run cron manually" link about half way down on the webpage. This will remove the error message. You can refer to Drupal to learn how to configure cron jobs.
Now click on the "Administer" link again, it is third down on the left. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Site Information". It is in the right hand column second up from the bottom. Go ahead and replace "Drupal" with you site name then enter you sites email address. After that add your sites slogan and mission if you have one. The footer section would be a great place to put your copyright info such as "Copyright © 2007 mysite.com". That is all you need to do on this page at the moment so click on "Save Configuration". You won't be able to see your slogan or mission statement yet. We need to change the site template for that. So let's go ahead and change it.
