Ever wanted to develop your own website but just didn't know how to get started? Website Development is probably a lot easier than you think and we'll show you how.

Step 4: Redirect Your Nameservers (DNS)

When you registered with Host Gator you should have received a welcome email that contains your Domain Name Server (DNS) information. They will look something like this: (these are examples and not your actual DNS, you need to check your Host Gator email for yours)

ns200.hostgator.com
ns201.hostgator.com

We won't get into what these are for other than to say they let your domain name know where to send visitors. Now we need to change your domain name settings where you registered your domain name with this new information. Do not use the above DNS, you need to use the DNS from your Host Gator email.

If you registered your name at Go daddy, login and go to your "Domain Control Center". You can get there by clicking on the "My Domain Names" link which is located under "names" in the upper left portion of the page. Once you are at your Domain Control Center Check the box next to your domain name. Now the links above your name should be active. Click on the "nameservers" link. You will see a list of three choices. Select "Custom Nameservers" and click the "ok" button. Now you will see a screen that says they will process your request, again hit the "ok" button.

That is all there is to it. You have successfully changed your nameservers! It takes anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours for the change to take effect. So take a break and come back in an hour or two. You will know the change had been made when you no longer see a Go daddy page on your website.

Once that happens it is time to access your Cpanel.

Those were examples.

Hi,

Those Nameservers are shown as examples only so that people will know what to look for in their e-mail. I have updated this step of the guide to make that more clear.

Thanks,
